Hispanic Linguistics’ Kim Potowski wins a $9,000 sub-award from The Humanities Without Walls Consortium
Assistant Professor of Hispanic Linguistics Kim Potowski, co-director of the Language in Context Research Group, recently received a $9,000 sub-award as part of The Humanities Without Walls Consortium via Ohio State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Humanities Without Walls (HWW) is a consortium of humanities centers at 15 research universities throughout the Midwest and beyond funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
The project, called the Midwest Heritage Language Network Initiative, involves finalizing over 100 written transcripts belonging to Potowski's Chicago Spanish corpus (or "CHISPA"). UIC Hispanic & Italian Studies linguistics graduate students Rodrigo Delgado, Irene Martinez, and Eleder Santamaria will be working on the project during summer 2015.
