This lecture will provide an opportunity to celebrate Raphael in 2020, the 500th anniversary of his death. We’ll talk about Renaissance food, starting with a virtual tour of “Casa Raffaello” in Urbino, exploring the kitchen and common spaces. We will also discuss the historic food of today’s Marche region, focusing especially on a renowned cheese that Michelangelo was known to enjoy, and some of chefs who gained fame in Italy during the time of Raphael. Finally, Chef Francesco Bellissimo will talk about traditional dishes, exploring recipes that you can easily try at home with your family and friends.

Event organized by the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies at UIC in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago to celebrate the Settimana della cucina italiana nel mondo
