Sánchez and collaborators use linguistic and cultural research for COVID education

Liliana Sánchez, Professor of Hispanic Linguistics, and her SAIPM-COVID19 collaborators have been using their linguistic and cultural research to help create effective health education materials for minority and indigenous communities in response to the COVID19 pandemic. As part of an NSF funded project, the group aims to answer the question: What can be done to increase understanding in a context of multilingualism and multiculturalism and unequal access to various types of healthcare? In response, they are creating, in collaboration with indigenous collaborators "a fully adaptable survey in several languages, a protocol for its administration, guiding questions for healthcare education material creation, and audiovisual materials" based on research data they collect.
