Basic Language Programs (101-104 & 113-114)

We offer two tracks of the Spanish Basic Language Program. Both tracks can be used to satisfy the LAS Foreign Language Requirement.
- Spanish for the Non-Native Speakers (SPAN 101, 102, 103, and 104)
- Spanish for Heritage Learners (Heritage Language Program) (SPAN 113 and 114)
The LAS Foreign Language Requirement may be fulfilled by passing Spanish 104 or Spanish 114, or passing the Spanish Placement Test.
The UIC placement test is used to determine the appropriate track and course for each student. All students are required to take the placement test, even if they have never studied or been exposed to the Spanish language before.
